The Oregon Coast is an angling paradise, with opportunities to fish the ocean, estuary, rivers, and lakes during virtually every month of the year. Pacific City happens to be my personal angling home, where I fish for salmon, steelhead, sea-run cutthroat, black rockfish, lingcod, albacore, and hatchery rainbow trout. This book couldn't possibly relate the entire story of angling opportunities that exist in and near Pacific City - but it is an "ice-breaker", opening up possibilities that will inspire any angler, and especially fly anglers, to the possibilities that the seasons hold from the river headwaters to the ocean. I produced this book to achieve two outcomes. First I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos of local fisheries. Second, I wanted to share brief summary of local fly fishing opportunities for various species, including recommendations regarding tackle and tactics, plus one fishing story related to each of key species and fishing seasons. This book isn't the whole story, but it's a start. Jay W. Nicholas Please note I encourage everyone who purchases these books to go to OFFICE MAX or KINKOS to get the book spiral bound. This makes it possible to lay the book flat and prevents it from getting creased and wrinkled. Thanks very much for your support.

Based upon a blog post and a personal conversation with Jay, who I'm proud to say is now a friend, I booked a fishing trip with one of his favorite Pacific City guides. It's an anniversary gift to my dad, a part of my parents 50th anniversary celebration there. We're really excited about the fishing trip.

Anyways, not that I NEEDED this book (because quite frankly Jay shared the relevant info on this fishery), I bought because the additional info on other fisheries were relevant and important, plus the stuff you learn about your own pursuits. It's a simple, straight forward read with the info needed to get started fishing on the central Oregon coast. Jay is on a mission to do a brain dump on his vast knowledge of the coastal stream and ocean fishery, and he doesn't disappoint with this volume. It's worth the price of admission.

Add to that the conversation style writing in his books, again, this one feels like a conversation with a friend around a campfire, favorite adult beverages in hand. And makes for an enjoyable read. If you're interested in the coastal fishery, with info applicable from the northern California coast to southern BC, get the book. You'll enjoy it. Thank again Jay!

Great book for all stages of anglers! Jay presents his insights in an easy to understand way, making even myself- a non fly fisherman, excited to get out there. Keep sharing your passion Jay.
In Fly Fishing Pacific City, Jay Nicholas does an excellent job of detailing the many species and seasons available for the angler on the Oregon coast. Jay goes through each of the available species and outlines optimal seasons, tackle and techniques while including some of his personal experiences along the way. This book is a tremendous tool for anyone interested in fishing anywhere along the Oregon coast.
Another gem in Jay Nicholas' fly fishing series! "Fly fishing Pacific City" contains beautiful images of 8 species, when/where they should be targeted, the preferred gear range to think about, and proven flies to entice bits. I would recommend this book not only to those lucky enough to fish in and around Pacific City OR, but anyone interested in getting salt water bites on the fly. Who wouldn't enjoy fighting a big Lingcod on a fly rod, or stripping a bucktail for an ocean coho grab? Very informative and fun read.
When Jay told me that he had this book in the hopper I got so excited. Not only does He lay it out there in this book, he gets in there and makes sure to set the stage for a successful day of fishing. This is a must have book for any Oregon fishery that an angler wants to use the fly on coastal fish. Even though it's cover is focused on Pacific City, these tactics can be used in a while variety of fisheries throughout the coast! Thank you Jay for making it so clear on these fantastic possibilities!

I am not known as a reader... Few things even spark my interest enough to crack the cover open. Although, having had my first fishing trip for spring chinook out of Pacific City this year, this book defiantly caught my eye. I started with the intent of getting through a few chapters... but after turning a few pages, and pouring a bourbon, I didn't stop until it was over... And I could have kept reading! The idea of fly fishing for ling cod had never crossed my mind, and has now been added to my bucket list. Jay focuses on the Pacific City area, but I feel like the information given in this book is relevant to any fishery I have ever been on in Oregon. I have now been enlightened to a whole other world of salt water fly fishing that I never knew existed. After flying through all the different species and stories in this book... the only thing I had left to look at was Crag's list to see if there were any good deals on a Dory.... So far I haven't purchased a boat, but it's still in the back of my mind. Warning! This book might be a gateway to buying a Dory ) Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion of fly fishing Jay!
very nice presentation of a varied coastal fishery
